(3) Purposes of processing
The Kuehne + Nagel app "KN Scanner" is a mobile application that aims to digitally map the transport chain in the partial and full load sector. For this purpose, the app processes data to enable communication with connected devices in the field.
For the use of the “KN Scanner” application, by data, we refer to GPS data from the phone, scanning for nearby devices via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, capturing sensor data, and transmitting it securely to authorized Kuehne+Nagel systems. The collected sensor data are then used by Kuehne + Nagel to provide shipment tracking (location) and monitoring information (temperature, light, humidity) to their customers.
All processing is technical in nature, limited to operational needs, and does not involve personal data or user identification.

(11) Categories of data collected
The app may access the following types of data strictly for technical and operational purposes:
- Location (Background and Foreground):
Location access is required to get GPS position and enable Bluetooth and Wi-Fi scanning, as mandated by Android OS. This allows the app to detect and communicate with nearby connected devices. - Bluetooth / Wi-Fi / USB Access:
Used to detect, connect to, and read data from authorized external devices.
The app does not have access to, nor does it collect:
- Phone numbers
- Device owner identity
- User accounts
- Contacts or messages
Moreover, the app does not collect location data full time. Every 15 minutes, the app checks if connected devices can be scanned. If no devices are available, the app does not collect nor send any data. If devices are available, the app collects their data, adds current location of the phone and sends data and location to Chorus platform, after which the app turns off.
For technical purposes, the user phone is identified by a random technical ID which is not attached to any personal data nor phone specific data (like IMEI or MAC address). This technical ID is renewed every 3 days. Historical technical ID are not stored over time.
